In a grand ceremony gathering the elite of the Egyptian automotive sector, the 15th edition of the "Egypt Car of the Year" award, organized by Automobile Foundation, took place at the Triumph Luxury Hotel in New Cairo on June 22, 2025.
The event witnessed a distinguished presence of automotive industry leaders, representatives of commercial chambers, members of the House of Representatives and Senate, as well as official dealership representatives, distributors, and a large number of specialized journalists and influencers in the automotive sector.
Official Opening and Key Messages from the Award President
The ceremony began with the Egyptian national anthem, followed by an opening speech from Mr. Mohamed Ali Hassan, President of the organizing company and Editor-in-Chief of Automobile Website and Magazine. He emphasized that this award, launched 15 years ago, has succeeded in becoming a true benchmark for excellence within the Egyptian automotive market, contributing to the consolidation of fair competition and continuous development.
He also pointed out that the award has taken a global turn in recent years, becoming internationally accredited. The first fruit of this recognition was its honoring at Automechanika Istanbul, which received the award for the best exhibition in the Middle East in the after-sales services sector. The award was received by Mr. Can Barki, Operations Manager for the Automechanika Group.
Awards Honoring Icons and Commemorating Achievements
This year, the organizing committee dedicated a portion of the celebration to honoring a number of influential figures in the Egyptian automotive market, most notably:
- Ms. Sharon Nitchie, Chairperson of General Motors Egypt and Africa, who successfully led the company towards leadership in the light and heavy transport sectors, introducing locally manufactured products with global standards.
- Eng. Mohamed Abdel Samad, Managing Director of Nissan Egypt, who led a successful development plan that resulted in improved products and increased exports of locally manufactured cars.
- A tribute to the soul of Haj Salah Abdel Mohsen Hetta, founder of Abu Hetta Auto Trading Company, one of the most prominent names in car distribution in Upper Egypt.
- Journalist and media personality Hisham El Zeiny, in appreciation of his long professional career and influential writings in supporting the automotive sector.
Insurance Pool Awards: Crown for Figures and Achievements
In the presence of a committee of senior experts, including Major General Hussein Mostafa, Eng. Khaled Saad, Counselor Osama Aboul Magd, and writer Hisham El Zeiny, the winners of the Insurance Pool Awards were announced as follows:
- Best-Selling Brand in Egypt: Hyundai (GB Auto) with 21,043 cars (as of April 2025).
- Best Chinese Local Manufacturing Brand: Chery (19,058 cars).
- Best-Selling European Company: Mercedes-Benz (10,137 cars).
- Best Chinese CBU Brand: MG Mansour (15,780 cars).
- Best Sedan CKD: Nissan Sunny.
- Best SUV CBU: Kia Sportage.
- Best Sedan CBU: Toyota Corolla.
- Best Economical Sedan: Hyundai Accent RB.
- Best Transport Company: Chevrolet (10,418 cars).
- Best Electric Car: Volkswagen (1,564 cars).
Excellence Awards: Marketing and Production Superiority
Excellence awards were granted based on a technical evaluation of companies' activities during the year, including:
- Best Advertising and Media Campaign: Mansour MG.
- Best Economical Car with a 1300 cc Engine: Proton Saga (local assembly).
- Excellence in Bus and Coach Production: Geyoushi Automotive.
- Best Sales Growth 2024/2025: BAIC Company (under EIM umbrella).
Automobile Poll: Public Voices Draw the Map
More than 295,000 users participated in the "Best Of" poll on the Automobile website, choosing the distinguished based on their experiences and satisfaction with performance. The results were:
- Best Minivan: Shinray T30 (23,223 votes).
- Best European SUV: Mercedes-Benz (27,335 votes).
- Best Electric Car: Nissan X-Trail (41,111 votes).
- Best Luxury Sports Car: Ferrari (16,212 votes).
- Best Chinese SUV: Geely Star Ray (22,123 votes).
- Best Luxury Car: Mercedes (19,430 votes).
- Best Economical Car: Renault Taliant (18,215 votes).
- Best Crossover: Nissan Qashqai (23,391 votes).
- Best Luxury Chinese Company: Exeed (22,125 votes).

The ceremony concluded with a group photo of the winners and honorees, with the organizing committee confirming that June will remain the official annual date for the celebration, serving as an annual opportunity to honor successes and document the achievements of the Egyptian automotive market.
The "EGYPT CAR OF THE YEAR" award is no longer just a local celebration; it has become a strong symbol of Egyptian ambition to transform into a regional hub for the automotive industry and trade, and a firm step towards global excellence.
