
The 9th edition of the automotive-specialized "Egypt Automotive Summit" kicked off today, Tuesday, starting with the national anthem, with wide participation of embassy representatives, governmental entities, the Engineering Export Council, and the Export Development Authority. The summit is held under the patronage of the Ministries of Industry, Investment, Foreign Trade, and Finance, and is attended by industry leaders and automotive experts, making it a strategic platform to envision the future of Egypt's automotive sector.
Opening speeches from industry leaders
Mr. Mohamed Abou El-Fotouh, CEO of Egypt Automotive, opened the summit welcoming attendees and emphasizing the conference’s importance as an effective communication tool between all sector stakeholders. He stated:
“Over the past nine years, we have worked to create a platform bringing together Egyptian and global corporate leaders to discuss key issues and activate them. Today, the Egypt Automotive Summit has become the voice of the sector, and we will continue our efforts to develop the industry and make it the first in the Arab world and Africa.”
Shell: Supporting local production and the Egyptian economy
Hatem Yahia, Chairman and Managing Director of Shell Egypt, shed light on market challenges and opportunities, pointing to the importance of supporting local production. He stated:
“We are proud that 80% of our production is locally made, which enhances our contribution to supporting the Egyptian economy.”
El Nasr Automotive Manufacturing Company: A new phase for the automotive industry
Khaled Shousha, Chairman of El Nasr Automotive Manufacturing Company and Honorary Chairman of the conference, emphasized the state’s commitment to developing the industry. He explained:
“Egypt is placing the development of the automotive sector at the top of its priorities by deepening local integration and supporting feeder industries, opening promising prospects for the future.”
Mansour Automotive Vision: Global transformations and regional cooperation
Ankur Aurora, CEO of Mansour Automotive, discussed major global transformations happening in the automotive sector, pointing to the importance of regional cooperation. He stated:
“With these changes, Egypt emerges as a potential regional hub that requires long-term investment strategies to transform the country into a major automotive manufacturing center.”
General Motors: Achievements and vision for the future
Sharon Nishi, Chairman and Managing Director of General Motors Egypt and North Africa, praised the achievements made and reiterated the company’s commitment to the future. She stated:
“In 2025, we will start local production of a new passenger car, reflecting our vision for a more sustainable and innovative future. We aim to make Egypt a regional center for automotive manufacturing.”
Signing of a protocol
The 9th edition of Egypt Automotive Summit witnessed the signing of a cooperation protocol between the Engineering Export Council, represented by Ms. Mai Helmy, Chairman of the Export Council for Engineering Industries, and the Feeder Industries Division at the Chamber of Engineering Industries of the Federation of Egyptian Industries, represented by Engineer Tamer El-Shafei, Head of the Feeder Industries Division.
This signing came in response to the directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on the importance of enhancing the automotive and feeder industries locally and stimulating exports, aiming to double Egypt's exports in support of achieving the state's economic goals. Exports are among the most important sources of the national economy, playing a major role in bringing in hard currency and increasing foreign currency reserves. This protocol reflects the desire of both parties to enhance cooperation between them to achieve the national goal of increasing Egypt's exports and realizing the desired goals.
Panel discussions and international perspectives
The summit features prominent figures from the local and international sectors, such as leaders from EIM, General Motors, and Stellantis. Successful international models like India and Malaysia will also be showcased to provide inspiring lessons that boost the development of the national industry.
The 9th edition of the “Egypt Automotive Summit” represents a new step towards strengthening Egypt’s position as one of the regional and global automotive manufacturing hubs, reflecting the commitment of all parties to achieve sustainable and innovative growth in this vital sector.
