Chery Tiggo 9 CSH Passes Extreme Black Sea Safety Tests

In a testament to Chery's commitment to pushing automotive safety boundaries, the Chery Tiggo 9 CSH hybrid SUV successfully underwent a rigorous series of extreme durability tests along the Black Sea coast.

Conducted in the presence of German engineering experts from FEV and over 150 automotive journalists from 16 European nations, the evaluations tested the vehicle’s powertrain resilience and battery protection systems under severe environmental and physical stress.

The successful completion of prolonged saltwater immersion and severe underbody impact tests highlights Chery's multi-layered safety engineering approach for modern family vehicles.

24-Hour Saltwater Immersion Test

The first phase involved submerging the high-voltage battery pack (34.46 kWh capacity) for 24 continuous hours in a saline solution containing 3.5% sodium chloride (NaCl). Following extraction, engineers conducted meticulous inspections of the battery casing, connectors, and pressure relief valves.

Evaluations led by FEV engineers confirmed zero visible signs of corrosion, swelling, or fluid leakage. Precision diagnostic measurements further validated the battery's structural integrity and electrical isolation:

  • Air-Tightness & Leakage Rate: Recorded a pressure leakage rate of just 8.067 Pa/min—well below the maximum allowable failure threshold of 31 Pa/min—confirming exceptional casing seal integrity.
  • Insulation Resistance: High-voltage insulation resistance remained well above 500 mega-ohms, verifying robust electrical isolation between the high-voltage system and the battery housing.

Underbody Friction and Impact Testing

Following successful reinstallation of the tested battery into the Tiggo 9 CSH, the vehicle transitioned to dynamic mechanical stress evaluations.

The crossover was driven over a 250 mm high obstacle at a speed of 14–15 km/h, intentionally creating severe underbody contact with the road surface. Post-impact inspections revealed:

  • Minor surface abrasion to the protective PVC coating of the underbody shield.
  • Zero structural damage, deformation, or cracking on the main battery housing.
  • Uncompromised high/low voltage connectors and coolant circulation lines, with no electrolyte leakage or thermal runaway indicators.
  • Complete absence of warning lights on the instrument cluster, demonstrating the effectiveness of the multi-layered bottom shield constructed from 780 MPa high-strength steel designed to absorb severe impacts.

Comprehensive Safety Architecture for Diverse Climates

These sequential trials demonstrate Chery's holistic approach to hybrid vehicle safety, combining robust physical armor with rapid-response electronics.

The CSH hybrid battery features an emergency high-voltage disconnection system capable of severing power within 2 milliseconds in the event of a collision, while operating reliably across ambient temperatures ranging from -35°C to 60°C.

Backed by over two decades of hybrid technology development across 9 global regions and 44 key countries, Chery continues to validate its innovations under extreme conditions, reinforcing its core safety philosophy: "Safety. For Family."
