Egypt’s automotive market is witnessing a rapid expansion in electric and electrified vehicles, as new brands seek to capitalize on growing consumer interest in advanced powertrains, longer driving ranges and modern SUV designs.
Among the latest arrivals is iCAUR, a Chinese brand affiliated with the Chery Group, which officially entered the Egyptian market in 2026 through GB Auto, introducing the iCAUR V27 as its first local model.
The V27 targets the growing SUV segment with a rugged exterior design, an extended-range electric vehicle powertrain and two different versions. Official prices currently range from approximately EGP 1.9 million to EGP 2.15 million.
iCAUR is part of the wider Chery Group and was established as a dedicated brand focused on electrified and intelligent vehicles.
The brand’s strategy centers on combining modern electric technologies with distinctive SUV designs and strong performance characteristics.
In Egypt, iCAUR is represented by GB Auto, which officially launched the brand in August 2026 as part of its broader relationship with Chery.
The launch of iCAUR adds another Chinese brand to Egypt’s increasingly competitive electrified vehicle market.
The iCAUR V27 represents the brand’s first step into the Egyptian market.
The SUV adopts a boxy and rugged design, featuring sharp lines and a high-riding stance designed to appeal to customers looking for a more adventurous alternative to conventional crossover models.
The V27 measures approximately 5.045 meters in length, 1.976 meters in width and 1.894 meters in height.
Its wheelbase reaches around 2.9 meters, while luggage capacity stands at approximately 715 liters, giving the vehicle a substantial footprint and practical interior space.
The model is offered in two versions in Egypt: Play and Wild.
The Play version uses rear-wheel drive, while the higher Wild version adopts all-wheel drive.
One of the most important features of the V27 is its REEV, or range-extended electric vehicle, powertrain.
Unlike conventional hybrids, an extended-range electric vehicle primarily uses electric motors to drive the wheels, while the gasoline engine works mainly as a generator to provide additional electrical energy when required.
The V27 combines a 1.5-liter gasoline engine with electric motors, with the exact drivetrain configuration varying between versions.
The higher-performance version produces up to approximately 375 hp and 505 Nm of torque.
It can accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in approximately 5.9 seconds, according to launch specifications.
This gives the V27 a strong performance profile for an SUV equipped with an extended-range electrified powertrain.
The V27 is available with different battery capacities depending on the version.
The Egyptian launch specifications list battery capacities of 20.47 kWh and 34.31 kWh.
The larger battery allows the vehicle to achieve an electric driving range of approximately 139 kilometers in the relevant configuration.
The gasoline engine and extended-range system then provide additional operating flexibility, allowing the vehicle to travel significantly farther than a battery-electric vehicle would be able to without recharging.
The overall range is reported to approach 1,000 kilometers, making long-distance usability one of the model’s key selling points in Egypt.
The V27 also supports fast charging.
According to the specifications announced at its Egyptian launch, the battery can be charged from 20% to 80% in approximately 30 minutes using a fast charger.
This feature becomes increasingly important as Egypt continues to expand its public charging infrastructure and more consumers consider electrified vehicles for daily transportation.
Actual charging times can vary depending on charger output, battery temperature and operating conditions, but fast charging provides the V27 with greater flexibility for both urban driving and longer journeys.
The V27 stands out with a design that is considerably more rugged than many mainstream electric crossovers.
Its upright body, squared proportions and sharp exterior lines are intended to appeal to customers who prefer a tougher SUV appearance.
The large dimensions also provide a commanding road presence, while the 2.9-meter wheelbase contributes to cabin space and passenger comfort.
This design philosophy gives the V27 a clear identity in an increasingly crowded SUV market.
The Egyptian V27 lineup consists of two main versions, allowing the brand to target different customer preferences.
The Play starts at approximately EGP 1.9 million and uses rear-wheel drive.
The Wild is priced at approximately EGP 2.15 million and adds all-wheel drive as well as stronger performance capabilities.
The price difference of around EGP 250,000 gives customers a clear choice between a more affordable configuration and a higher-performance version with all-wheel-drive capability.
Warranty coverage is particularly important for a new brand entering a market where consumers are still becoming familiar with extended-range electric technology.
GB Auto offers the vehicle with warranty coverage of up to six years or 200,000 kilometers, while the battery receives coverage of up to eight years or 200,000 kilometers.
The extended battery warranty could help reduce concerns among buyers about the long-term reliability and replacement costs associated with electrified powertrain components. (
The V27 is entering an Egyptian market where competition among electrified SUVs is already intensifying.
Its competitors include models such as the Deepal G318 and Jetour T2 i-DM, while higher-priced alternatives include the AVATR 07 REEV and ROX 01.
The V27 has a clear pricing advantage against some competitors, starting at EGP 1.9 million and reaching EGP 2.15 million for the higher version.
However, price will not be the only factor determining its success.
Performance, driving range, charging capability, after-sales service, spare-parts availability and long-term ownership costs will all influence customer decisions.
The arrival of iCAUR also highlights the growing interest in extended-range electric vehicles.
REEV technology can provide a middle ground between fully electric vehicles and conventional hybrids.
Drivers can benefit from electric propulsion during a large portion of their daily use while retaining a gasoline-powered range extender for longer trips.
This can be particularly attractive in markets where charging infrastructure is expanding but has not yet reached the level required for mass adoption of fully electric vehicles.
The V27 is only the starting point for iCAUR in Egypt.
The brand’s international portfolio also includes models such as the iCAUR 03T, a smaller SUV positioned with electrified powertrain technology and different drivetrain configurations.
The presence of additional models in international markets could provide opportunities for the brand to expand its Egyptian lineup into other segments and price categories in the future
However, future expansion will depend heavily on the performance of the V27, consumer acceptance of REEV technology and the ability of the local distributor to provide reliable after-sales support.
iCAUR enters Egypt at a time when consumer interest in electric and hybrid vehicles is increasing rapidly.
The V27 represents the brand’s first local offering, combining a rugged SUV design with an extended-range electric powertrain based on a 1.5-liter gasoline engine and electric motors.
The higher-performance version delivers up to 375 hp and 505 Nm, while the vehicle offers battery capacities of up to 34.31 kWh and an electric range of approximately 139 kilometers.
With an overall range approaching 1,000 kilometers, fast charging capability and prices ranging from EGP 1.9 million to EGP 2.15 million, the V27 enters the market with a competitive combination of technology, performance and practicality.
The real challenge, however, will be converting these specifications into sustained consumer demand.
For iCAUR, building a strong reputation for reliability, after-sales service and long-term ownership support will be just as important as the vehicle’s technology and performance as the brand seeks to establish itself in Egypt’s increasingly competitive electrified SUV market.
