In a new step towards enhancing the localization of electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing in Egypt, the Ghabbour Foundation for Development has inaugurated advanced workshops, funded by the Investing for Employment (IFE) initiative, which provided a financial grant of €1 million to support the project. This collaboration is part of ongoing efforts to develop the automotive sector in Egypt and to train the national workforce to meet the demands of both local and international markets.
Through this grant, the Investing for Employment initiative, established by the German Development Bank (KfW) on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), aims to support the Ghabbour Foundation for Development in building the infrastructure needed to train specialized trainers in the maintenance of electric vehicles and fuel-powered vehicles. The financial support covers the costs of training trainers, developing educational curricula, and equipping workshops with the necessary tools to provide advanced practical training.
Stephen Kohl, CEO of the "Investing for Employment" initiative, expressed his satisfaction with this collaboration, stating: "Our primary goal is to create sustainable job opportunities for Egyptians and localize advanced industries such as electric vehicle manufacturing. We are proud to support the Ghabbour Foundation for Development in this ambitious project, which enhances the capabilities of Egyptian youth and drives economic development forward."
The project aims to train and employ 10 specialized trainers in vehicle maintenance and painting, with a focus on the latest technologies in electric vehicle maintenance. Additionally, the Ghabbour Foundation for Development plans to train 700 trainees over the next three years in the workshops of Ghabbour Academy and Ghabbour Technical Schools.
Dr. George Sedky, Secretary-General of the Ghabbour Foundation for Development, emphasized that this collaboration represents a golden opportunity to prepare Egyptian youth for the labor market, stating: "We are committed to providing intensive practical training using the latest technologies, which helps bridge the gap between technical education and industry needs. This project will contribute to enhancing local manufacturing and reducing reliance on imports."
This initiative is part of Germany's efforts to support social and environmental transformation in Egypt. The Decent Work for a Just Transition initiative, led by Dr. Veronika Ulbert, Head of the "Decent Work" Department at the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, aims to improve job opportunities in the private sector and enhance working conditions.
In her speech at the inauguration ceremony, Dr. Ulbert said: "This project is not just about creating jobs; it also contributes to Egypt's technological and environmental transformation. We believe that advanced vocational training is key to achieving sustainable economic development, and this collaboration is a successful model of development cooperation between Germany and Egypt."
This project represents a strategic step towards enhancing Egypt's position as a regional hub for electric vehicle manufacturing. By providing advanced training, the Ghabbour Foundation for Development is helping to prepare a new generation of specialized technicians capable of meeting the growing market demand for electric vehicles. The project also strengthens Egypt's ability to compete in global markets, especially amid the global shift towards environmentally friendly vehicles.
The collaboration between the Ghabbour Foundation for Development and the Investing for Employment initiative is a significant step towards realizing Egypt's vision of localizing electric vehicle manufacturing. By offering advanced training and developing infrastructure, this project contributes to creating sustainable job opportunities, enhancing national competencies, and driving economic development in Egypt.
