Boosting Exports: Ministry of Industry Discusses Expansion Plans with Mercedes-Benz Egypt

The Minister of Industry, Khaled Hashem, held an extensive high-level meeting with a delegation from Mercedes-Benz Egypt, led by CEO Thomas Vagedeshauser, to discuss the German luxury automaker's future expansion plans in the local market.

The strategic bilateral talks focused heavily on exploring mechanisms to deepen local manufacturing capabilities and assessing potential avenues for exporting Egyptian-assembled premium vehicles to regional and neighboring markets in the coming period.

The crucial meeting was attended by key ministry officials, including Alaa Salah, Head of the Automotive Unit, and Mohamed Samy, Assistant Minister for Strategic Affairs, reflecting the government's steadfast commitment to transforming the domestic automotive landscape.

Current Manufacturing Capacities of Mercedes-Benz in Egypt

The meeting carefully reviewed the current manufacturing metrics and industrial output of Mercedes-Benz within the domestic sector.

The premium German brand currently operates its primary assembly facility located in the Sixth of October City, which boasts an impressive production capacity of approximately five thousand vehicles annually.

Furthermore, the locally assembled models feature a solid local component rate of forty-five percent. This substantial percentage reflects the automaker's dedication to developing its industrial operations and integrating local suppliers, laying a firm foundation for higher production volumes that align with joint strategic ambitions.

Incentives Under the National Automotive Development Program

During the discussions, the Minister of Industry emphasized that the Egyptian government has implemented an unprecedented package of promotional measures designed to ensure the total success of the National Automotive Development Program (AIDP).

Through these targeted policies, the state aims to attract major global automotive conglomerates capable of achieving a production benchmark of no less than one hundred thousand vehicles annually.

The minister pointed out that the program's framework includes direct cash incentives linked to increasing local component integration, added value, and new investment volumes, alongside flexible environmental, tax, and export incentives engineered to boost the flow of Egyptian-made vehicles into regional markets, with a strong focus on electric vehicle localization.

Future Vision for Value Chain Integration and Consumer Protection

Khaled Hashem urged the leadership of Mercedes-Benz to capitalize on its long-standing and historical relationship with the Egyptian market by taking rapid steps to scale up production and upgrade the local supplier network to deepen value chain integration.

On domestic market regulation, the minister stressed that the ministry's strategy prioritizes consumer protection by elevating service quality, strictly auditing authorized maintenance centers, and guaranteeing the continuous availability of genuine spare parts and reliable after-sales services throughout the vehicle's lifecycle.

In response, Thomas Vagedeshauser reaffirmed Mercedes-Benz's absolute commitment to strengthening its business footprint and expanding its dealer network in Egypt, confirming that the Egyptian market remains one of the brand's most critical strategic hubs in the entire region.

In conclusion, the joint meeting between the Ministry of Industry and Mercedes-Benz outlines the features of a new era for automotive manufacturing in Egypt, rooted in strategic partnership and the attraction of foreign direct investment.

The strong harmony between the investment incentives offered by the National Automotive Development Program and legendary German engineering expertise paves the way for transforming Egypt into a leading regional hub for premium vehicle exports.

This calculated industrial progression will not only deepen feeding industries and generate specialized employment opportunities but also reaffirms the high investment attractiveness of the Egyptian state as a powerful export launchpad toward neighboring economies.
