Symptoms of Faulty Car Sensors: Idle, Crankshaft and O2 Sensors and What to Do
Engine misfiring, a fluctuating RPM gauge, hard starting and higher fuel consumption don't necessarily mean one particular sensor has failed. Idle sensor symptoms can resemble an air leak or a dirty throttle body, crankshaft sensor symptoms can resemble fuel and ignition faults, and an O2 sensor code may appear because of an exhaust leak or an incorrect fuel mixture rather than the sensor itself. So don't replace any sensor based on symptoms or a fault code alone. Read the codes, check the connectors and wiring, review live data on a diagnostic tool, then test the sensor or circuit according to the car's specifications
